It’s hard to protect your humans when all you want to do is watch television.

All Systems Red is the first book in the popular Murderbot series. It is set in a future where planetary exploration is run by corporations and androids are tasked with protecting humans. Told in first person from the perspective of an android working with a group of scientists doing field tests on a remote planet you are immediately immersed in the quirky thoughts of the self-proclaimed “Murderbot”. This book was pure brain candy. The interactions of Murderbot with her human companions were completely engaging and relatable (if you are an introvert you know what I mean). Right from page 1, you get a sense of the humor in this novel and the action is non-stop. There is no intense science, epic world-building, or deep themes. It is a fun quick read that sweeps you into a faraway galaxy. All Systems Red is so unique in its storytelling and tone.  I will definitely be continuing the series.
