Dark Matter by Blake Crouch

5  Stars

If you could do it all over again would you? Would you open the door and travel through a life on the path not chosen?

Jason Dessen is a brilliant quantum physicist, or rather was. Until he made his choice to walk away from research and live a normal life. One cold Chicago evening as he walks home from a local bar Jason is kidnapped and wakes up in a world where he never left his brilliant research. Now all he wants is to go back to his life, his old life with his wife Daniela and son Charlie, and continue on the path he had already chosen. But sometimes going home is harder than you think.

This book blew my mind. It was so thought provoking – the idea of following all the loose threads of unmade choices. It read like a sci-fi thriller. I found myself constantly asking “Will he? Won’t he?” and trying to guess what would happen next which is impossible with a multiverse novel. The writing style was swift and clipped which really fit the tone of the book. Anything more in depth would have taken away from the energy of the reading experience.

This was my first Blake Crouch novel and will absolutely not be my last. I highly recommend this to fans of rabbit holes, the Jason Bourne series, and pondering what life truly means.

Have you read Dark Matter? Is this Blake Crouch’s best work? Are there other works of his you recommend? Comment down below.
